The other week I had the exciting opportunity to be a part of Manulife Place’s style panel with my friends Sandy-Joe of The Pretty Secrets and our lovely host Anton Atienza! We joined forces to chat all about 2017’s fall fashion trends.
To fill you in, Sandy-Joe and I put together two looks featuring pieces from some of our favourite stores in Manulife Place- Blu’s, Holt Renfrew, and Swish Vintage. Our goal was to highlight some of this years biggest trends and I think we did a pretty good job- if I do say so myself ;)
I know a lot of you probably weren’t able to make it to the event so I thought it would be fun to share our looks, talk fall fashion, and share some of the highlights from our style panel…
Trending | No Pants
The first trend up for discussion? No pants! But it’s not as risqué as you might think. The no pants trend is all about rocking items like blazers and cardigans, and wearing them in a more oversized and longline fashion where basically no pants are necessary.
We highlighted this look with an amazing vintage cardigan from Swish Vintage and a charcoal tunic from Blu’s underneath! Too chilly for bare legs? I’d suggest wearing some over the knee boots like these Stuart Weitzman beauties to keep your legs warm!
Trending | Seeing Red
The colour red is literally everywhere this season! TBH, it was one of my least favourite colours but for some reason I’ve fallen in love with it this year. Fall is typically all about neutrals which is why having a bold colour like red in the mix really makes a statement.
Sandy-Joe and I found this amazing Smythe blazer at Blu’s which we built our entire look off of. I love the striped pattern with the hints of red in it. Such a classic print that is bound to make a statement! We played off the patterned blazer and accessorized with a bold red bag from Swish and some navy velvet booties by Prada from Holt Renfrew.
Trending | Embroidery
We didn’t have a chance to incorporate this trend into one of our looks but we couldn’t help but share these ah-mazing embroidered booties from Holt Renfrew. Embroidery was a huge trend this summer on pieces like dresses and skirts, but this fall we’re seeing it on shoes! From over the knee boots to flats and slides, if you see a pair don’t hesitate to try them on.
Trending | Hats Off
Another big trend this year is hats! You guys have seen me wearing my baker boy cap time and time again and lucky for me, the trend is still going strong. We’re also seeing pieces like berets and faux fur step onto the scene which is super fun. Be sure to check out Swish Vintage or your local vintage shops to find some unique pieces to add to your collection.
I had so much fun with my panel pals Anton and Sandy-Joe! We had about an hour to chat about fall fashion and I was surprised how fast it flew by when we got to chatting. I mean by the looks of this next picture with one of our winners Vickie of Adventures in Fashion clearly, we were meant to be on stage…
One of the hardest things about being on the style panel was trying to decide what to wear. I know, it’s sad but true! I knew I wanted to be comfortable and keep things a little professional but of course, be true to my style. I decided to keep things simple in a pair of black skinny jeans but add a pop of colour with a pink sweater! It was also pretty cold that day so I layered it with a checkered jacket and accessorized with my favourite belt.
