Josh and I had THE laziest weekend and literally binge watched Netflix all Saturday. It was pure bliss. But it got me thinking about the shows I’ve currently been loving and I figured I’d share them with you in a post genuisely titled…
shows to binge watch on Netflix this weekend!
It’s hard to imagine what we did in the days before Netflix? I mean, watch TV rarely happens anymore and instead I find myself binge watching shows on there. Now that I think of it, that’s probably way worse than watching a 1 hour TV episode- oops!
When it comes to movies and shows I’m kind of all over the map. I love a compelling documentary that makes me re-think my entire existence, aka Minimalism (SO eye opening). Or a heartwarming tear jerker show like This Is Us, which is now on Netflix and I’m obsessed. The only thing I’m not into is horror because if I watched anything scary I’d basically have to move back home with my mom which is A: Embarrassing for a 28 year old married woman, and B: I’m not sure how her fiancé would feel about her 28 year old married daughter moving back in. But other than scary movies, I’m pretty easy going!
So what should you be binge watching this weekend? Here’s a list of 7 shows that I would highly recommend…
This was the show we couldn’t help but binge watch over the weekend because OMG, it’s so good! Set in the late 1970’s mind hunter is about 2 FBI agents who are all about expanding criminal science by looking into the psychology behind some of America’s worst serial killers. It’s dark but has funny moments pop up in all the right places. The acting is on point and they look into some pretty brutal crimes which for some reason is fascinating. All I can say is, the mind is a powerful thing and you need to watch this show ASAP!
Warning: this show is only for you if British humour is your thing, otherwise, you probably won’t think it’s funny.
Josh and his family are from Scotland so I’ve caught on to their humour over the years and as a result we had some pretty good laughs watching White Gold. It’s about these misfit salesmen led by Vincent, aka Gossip Girls Chuck Bass, who will do anything to make a sale happen. This all goes down in the 80’s so not only is the humour on point, but so are their ridiculous outfits.
GAGA: Five Foot Two
This one might not be a show but I couldn’t help but throw Gaga’s documentary into the mix. Whether or not you’re a fan of her music, I’m not really tbh, it’s still a super powerful documentary. I wasn’t really expecting to connect with it in any way but just having a glimpse into her life and how hard she works was really inspiring. I know we all have struggles but watching her deal with them on screen and being so candid about everything was super refreshing.
*I was also thinking when I’m rich and famous I’d name my documentary, SMITH: FIVE FEET EVEN ;)
I have to say I’m shocked this show isn’t talked about more! Wentworth is basically a darker version of Orange is the New Black and the main character Bea Smith is a total badass with amazing hair- it’s seriously what my curly haired dreams are made of. I think there’s 5 seasons now so this one is definitely binge-able! Did I mention its also set in Australia? After watching 3 seasons in a row I was pretty much one of the girls with a full on Aussie accent. True story.
There are so many reasons to watch this show. For starters, Jason Momoa is the main character so watching Frontier is pretty much necessary on that point alone. Secondly, for all my fellow Canadians, Frontier is about the North American fur trade during the 1700’s and majority of the series was shot on our home turf! I’m usually not into history shows, but it is pretty cool to hear them talk about the HBC, a company that is still alive and thriving to this day! It also has some pretty juicy storylines with drama and secret affairs which make the history part not so boring. Go Canada!
This is another series that I’m surprised doesn’t have more buzz around it. Similar to Riverdale, it’s a Fox series, where you can watch the latest episode on Netflix weekly after it airs on TV. This show is an American musical drama about 3 girls who are struggling to make it in the industry. I’m not big on musicals but this one has all the hip-hop and R&B vibes a girl could want! And can we talk about Stars voice for a second? It’s heavenly. This show has major girl group vibes, a la Destiny’s Child, which has me wishing I could sing, rock a pair of Timberland’s, and basically just have more swag.
*The fact that I even used the word swag is a clear indication that I have none.
Friends From College
This show came out in July and I’m pretty sure it took me a weekend to finish it. The title gives it away, but it’s about a group of friends from college who are now facing their 40’s. Think Friends, but a more realistic and older version. My inner drama queen loved this show but also hated how it ended (no spoiler alerts, I promise). And even though some of the situations were messy and kind of depressing, the characters still had you laughing along which is always a bonus in my books.
What’s on your binge list these days? We’re always on the hunt for the next show so if you have any recommendations let me know!
And speaking of weekends, I managed to change out of my sweats and put on this oh so cute blush vest for an afternoon out! The weather has been so nice lately so I’ve been enjoying wearing denim jackets and vests like this one while I can.
One of my favourite things about this look is my new over the knee boots from Le Château. They’re really great quality and have a nice stretch to them so your legs aren’t squeezed in like little sausages. Always a bonus!
Happy binge watching!
